Lake Karrinyup is an Alex Russell course built far from his hometown of Melbourne. It is probably the hilliest of Australia’s best courses and no one questions the beauty of the site. Like so many others, decades of alteration had taken the course some way from its original look and in 2007 the club committed to a complete rebuilding of all 18 greens and bunkers.
The fairways are wide and relatively easy to hit but the test of driving is not simple straightness but rather picking the ideal line and hitting the shape of shot the hole is asking for. This is a big scale, grand course that is really fun to play and in October it will host the new co-sanctioned European tour event, an event with the biggest prize money on the Australian Tour.
