Just up the road from Kingston Heath, his place of employment for 46 years, Vern Morcom designed this much-underrated course in the early 1950’s. He made his characteristically beautiful greens and bunkers and a number of first-class holes.
The modern ball had distorted the dimensions of his dogleg holes including the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 11th and 16th and adding back tees has helped regain their integrity. We have rebuilt a couple of par threes, the 5th and the short but treacherous 10th, as well as encouraging and restoring the heathlands. The course has steadily improved and remains an important part of the illustrious group of sandbelt courses.
